Art Walls

I have been really inspired by art walls lately. I think hanging an art wall in a room can really add to the character of the room. I love that there aren't really any rules when it comes to what are to hang either (although there are some guidelines on how to pull off the look). The whole point of an art wall is to display what makes you happy, and when you hang a bunch of art together it almost becomes one large piece of art in itself.

There are no rules as to what you should hang in an art wall.... but there are a few helpful guidelines:

1. Collect all of your art BEFORE you hang any of it. This will take patience for sure, because it could take a few years even to collect the art that you love. But if you have it all collected before you hang it your layout will look a lot better.

2. Have some sort of consistency so that the art looks like it belongs together. This could mean that the art is all related, or the frames are similar, or you use all different frames in the same couple colors (white, black, gold and wood are common)

3. Once you have the art you want to use framed and ready to be hung; lay it out on the floor in the room you want to hang it. Play around with the layout until you have it the way you like it. Then start hanging each piece on the wall from the center out.

Dont let the term "art wall" fool you either. It doesn't have to mean fine art.... an art wall can consist of photos, graphic prints, posters, pencil drawing, kids artwork, anything really.

I love this art wall going up the stairs! See how their frames are not all the same, but they are in the same general "family"?
