I was at the beach a couple weekends ago with one of my best friends and her and I got to talking about the role God plays in our lives when we go through really hard times. I have heard many times that "God doesn't give you more than you can handle." I think thats a nice saying, and I used to believe it.... but the past couple months in my life have changed what I think about that.

I am confident that God does not cause terrible things to happen in our lives. He wants the best for us, but unfortunately (by our own sinful nature) we live in a fallen world in which we hurt each other. That being said, I don't believe that God protects us from what we cant handle... I think God DOES allow us to be dealt more than we can handle alone, so that he can be glorified by providing for us in those times. Otherwise we would try to take credit when we make it through.

Plus, if God never allowed us to take on more than we, ourselves, can handle... then what is the point of having faith?

This life is not always easy. And sin is real and it messes up everything, but take heart... for we serve a God who has already overcome the world (John 16:33). He goes before us and behind us (Deut. 31:8). He is close to the brokenhearted and those crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). And he works all things for our good (Romans 8:28)... we just have to trust him to do it.
