I can not believe that the summer is coming to an end... partly because it went by so fast, but mostly because it's still in the 90's here in Nashville! I'll be honest though, I can't wait for the Fall to get here already. Fall has always been my favorite season. I love the weather, the food, the leaves changing, the holidays, layering my clothes and finally not sweating as soon as I walk out the door. Of course you know I love college football - War Eagle! And I also love decorating in the Fall.
Gingham is one of the most classic patterns there is and just happens to be one of my favorite Fall patterns. I love wearing gingham as much as I love to decorate and accessorize with it in my home. Don't get me wrong, Gingham really is transitional through every season, but there is something about a check print in the Fall that just seems fitting. It must have something to do with the fact that it reminds me of a modern-style plaid... which is ironic because there is nothing necessarily modern about gingham, its as timeless as they come.
Gingham is also known in the design world as "buffalo check" when the pattern is done in a larger scale (like the chair below). One of the reasons I love using buffalo check in bedding or upholstery is that it adds interest to a room while still maintaining a very classic feel. At its roots, it lends itself to southern style, but I have seen buffalo check used in very modern spaces as well without skipping a beat. It seems to be one of those patterns that holds its own no matter where you use it. Modern, classic, bold, edgy, southern, traditional.... I could use this pattern in any of those categories and you wouldn't think it didn't fit... which makes it one of my favorite staples when I am thinking through a design.
