Christmas is almost here! If your family is like mine, food is always a main ingredient to our holiday gatherings. We tend to eat a more formal dinner on Christmas Eve and then stay in our pajamas and snack on finger foods on Christmas day. Whether you are hosting your loved ones for the holidays or visiting your family and friends it is always a great idea to have a couple holiday dishes on hand. Today my friend Sarah from Basel and Spice is here to share with us some of her quick and easy go-to favorites for the perfect holiday menu. Merry Christmas! xo, Sarah Catherine
Basel and Spice Holiday Menu
For me, the holidays are the perfect time to entertain family and friends. Each year, I host a holiday party in which I create a special menu of classic favorites mixed with 1-2 fresh new recipes. Preparing food for loved ones is one of my favorite things to do, so each year I carefully create a menu that will cater to all – whether gluten free or vegetarian – there’s something for everyone!
This year, I chose to try a simple new recipe that turned out to be a huge crowd pleaser. These prosciutto wrapped pear bites have every flavor you can imagine–sweetness of the pear, creamy tang of the brie, a kick of bitterness from the arugula, and the saltiness of prosciutto, all in one bite.
Another easy party favorite that’s not only delicious, but pretty to look at, try pairing holiday cheeses with rosemary crackers, fig spread, grapes and manchego cheese stuffed dates.
One of my favorite recipes to make each year is one that has been handed down from my grandmother and is guaranteed to be at our family get together each holiday. Simply called, “tortilla wedges”, these make for a great appetizer at any family gathering.
Recipe for my Grandmother’s Tortilla Wedges:
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- ½ Cup sour cream
- 4 oz can diced Green chiles
- ½ cup chopped green onion
- 1 tablespoon chopped jalapeños
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 2 bags soft flour tortillas (I usually buy a medium-size tortilla)
Mix cream cheese, sour cream, green chiles, green onion and jalapeños. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Spread about 1/8 cup of cream cheese mixture on to a tortilla until thin, layer with tortilla and repeat. Once finished, but tortillas into wedges using pizza cutter or knife. Serve with your favorite salsa!
Recipe should make 3-4 layered tortillas.
