Highlights from 2016

2016 was quite a year... sometimes I cant believe how fast the time goes! Over the holidays I spent some time reflecting on the past year and thinking about what some of my goals might be for the coming year. I'm not one fore making lots of "new years resolutions" but I do like to look back at the days that have passed and remind myself of all that there is to be thankful for, all the emotions -joy, sorrow, excitement, fear, etc.- that come with each year that passes and all that is still left to strive for. So here is a little recap of the highlights of the past year from the SCD blog!

Last year started off with a BANG! I made the official announcement about the start of my Interior Design business Sarah Catherine Design, LLC! Its been a challenging and exciting year in the biz but I wouldn't have changed a second of it. I am so glad I took this step and I cant wait to see what year 2 brings! Full post here.

Before Easter I shared this DIY tutorial for dyeing eggs using natural dyes. It was a really fun project and fun to see what colors I ended up with! Some of my favorites were the beets and turmeric! Full post here.

Last Spring started off with a girls trip to Napa and Big Sur! It was my first time to California and I absolutely loved it! I mean what's not to love about drinking wine with some of your best friends in a setting like this? Right?! I've already got another Cali trip on the books for 2017 so stay tuned for more to come on that! Full post here.

I share a little on what I have learned about "zooming in" when life overwhelms you or doesn't look the way you hoped or planned. Full post here.

I painted my living room pink one afternoon kind of on a whim.. haha(Thanks to my sister for letting me talk her into some spontaneous manual labor.) Really, what girl doesn't need a pink living room at least once in their life?! Full post here.

I opened the SCD Home shop (here) and have had such a blast finding unique items to share with all of you. One of my goals in 2017 is to focus a little more time and energy on expanding the shop - so stay tuned for more on that! Full post here.

I took a trip to Chicago over the summer to see Coldplay in concert -which was amazing- and had the best time exploring the city! We walked about a million miles trying to cram everything into a weekend, but we had a blast. Shortly after my Chicago trip I drove down to Chattanooga with my sister to visit our cousin. I was really surprised at how much that city has to offer, from a fun downtown scene to tons of hiking and outdoor sports! Full post here.

I shared some thoughts on starting my own business here.... and a little bit about what I have been learned in regards to faith requiring courage here.

In September we took a family trip to NYC for the US Open Tennis tournament. We saw some amazing tennis, but one of my favorite parts about the trip was spending an afternoon riding bikes through Central Park. Ive been to NYC several times but had never spent more than an hour or so in the park at any one time - it was great to see more of it on this trip. And who doesn't love riding bikes on a beautiful fall day? Full post here.

With every year comes highs and lows... and one of the hardest parts about last year was saying goodbye to my sweet dog Lacy. She was so dear to me and I miss her everyday. her life was a bright shining spot in my world and I'll never forget her. Full post here.

Probably the biggest highlight of last year was my trip to Europe! Amsterdam was our first stop and it was also my favorite place we visited during our trip. It was one of the most charming cities I have ever been to and I already cant wait to go back! Full post here.

After several days in Amsterdam, Whitney and I also traveled to Spain. Man that trip was an absolute dream! Needless to say I'm going to have my work cut out for me trying to keep up with my travel itinerary from last year. Challenge accepted though! Full post here.

I shared a little update on a project I have been working on for the better part of last year. I love the way this home is coming together! We still have a little ways to go on this one, so be sure to follow along here on the blog or on Instagram (@Sarahcdesign) to check out the progress! Full post here.

I had the opportunity to work with the team over at Womanista on a Holiday Decor inspiration article and we had a great time setting up this gorgeous home for the holidays. Full post here.

What a year it has been, right!? Life is full of surprises and I cant wait to see what this new season brings. What are some of your goals for 2017? Cheers to a new chapter and {hopefully} more excitement, travel, friends and design work left to come!
