It’s my birthday week! Woop woop! This year I decided that I would give myself a birthday gift and (partially) re-do my guest bedroom and I must say that I LOVE how it turned out! Before moving to Birmingham my guest bedroom mostly consisted of hand-me down furniture and bedding from my college days. Those items served their purpose… but given the fact the the rest of my house (sans the kitchen - renovation plans in the works) was up to par it was time that I have my guest bedroom a little TLC.
Being a designer, I will periodically “file” things away for my own home as I spot them and when I saw this inspiration image above that was one of those time. The bedding is a little too boho for my personal taste but I absolutely could not get that periwinkle wall color off my mind! I had had my eye on this Katie Ridder Peony fabric (link here) for ages and knew that I wanted to use it in my guest room. When I spotted this wall color it was like a lightbulb went off in my head and the whole vision for the room fell into place. It took me a while and several sample tries (see my tips on selecting paint colors here) to get the paint color just right - periwinkle is tough y’all - but I finally settled on Sherwin Williams Daydream because it was the right tone and just enough blue + purple.
I also really loved how the wall color complimented my antique furniture which I had been collecting over time. This yellow desk is from my grandmother’s house and was actually my mom’s desk growing up! I found the iron and brass bed at an antique shop in Asheville, NC and barely fit it into the back of my car to get it home - whew - that was lucky. Knowing that I was going to use a bold fabric for the accent pillow(s) on the bed, I decided to go a tad more neutral with the bedding. I love how the scalloped duvet and shams subtly add a feminine touch and compliment the blueish tones in the walls and peony fabric. It took me a while to decide exactly how to use the peony fabric too - euros? bolster? a pair of smaller 22” pillows? I had used this oversized pillow idea on a beach house project that I had just completed in Rosemary Beach, FL and loved how that turned out! So… I decided to hotel stack the sleep pillows and add a single oversized euro to the bed as a way to think outside the box!
I love this fun pillow so much… and since it’s my birthday I have decided to do a…
One lucky winner will win a designer peony pillow similar to mine! I’m giving away a bolster pillow out of this pretty peony fabric with periwinkle welt trim on the ends. It would be perfect as a center pillow on a queen size bed (like wall color inspo pic above) or centered on a sofa! Sound fun??
