Guest Post: Designer Keri Peterson

Happy Monday everyone! Today I am really excited to introduce you to a fantastic designer that I have had the privilege to get to know over the past several months. She has a great eye for interior design and a hilarious sense of humor to go along with it. Enjoy! ---------------------------------------------------- Hey Everybody!

It's Keri Petersen here, hopping over from my design blog kp spaces. I'm an interior designer in Seattle, and pretty much giddy to be here on Sarah's blog because I absolutely adore her work, her blog, and her fresh perspective on design!

Here in Seattle, we have about 363 days of overcast and rain, and about two days of sun the same week everybody goes back to school. Okay, maybe it's not THAT bad. But it sure feels like it sitting on my living room sofa, watching the rain fall and chugging my fifth cup of coffee in attempts to ward off permanent hibernation.

It's about this time every winter that I start fantasizing about the warm weather of spring and summer. The longer days, starry nights, the smell of the ocean and blooming flowers. I dream about lounging on a beautiful wrap-around porch, sipping sweet tea and watching the world go by. So whether you are watching rain, snow, sleet or sun from your window, let's sit a spell and enjoy these magical, wonderful porches.

Gosh, think about the history of this porch. What was going on here 100 years ago when this was built?

I'm a sucker for a porch swing.

Front Porch Rockin'

A few months ago one of the rocking chairs that we have on our front porch broke. Matt tried to fix it and it did work for a while, but I think the wood is just too worn out. Earlier this week my Dad stopped by and brought me 2 brand new rocking chairs and a table to match! There is just something about rocking chairs on a front porch that makes me feel happy to be home.

The thing is, these chairs are completely unfinished, which means it is up to ME to figure out how to finish them. Hmmm....

Our previous set of rockers were black, so I could always keep it traditional and paint these new ones black too. I love how sharp the black looks on our front porch.... but it isn't very exciting.

White is also a really nice traditional color, but I think it might be a little too plain for our porch. I do love how the white looks in this picture against the white house and white columns. Very Southern.

I am loving this dusty grey color on these rockers! Its a nice split between being traditional and a little more playful.

There is definitely a part of me that wants to get really creative and do a fun color like this mint! I mean, I could always repaint them later right?

I absolutely LOVE these red rockers on this porch! But, unfortunately, I don't think they would really go with our house, since I think they belong in more of a mountain/cabin setting. Plus our house is a slight green which would make it look like Christmas on our porch all year long. Ha!

Of course, I dont have to paint them at all. I could always stain them for a natural and classic look.

There are so many possibilities, I am just going to have to take a paint fan-deck home with me tonight and think about it.

What color would you paint your rocking chairs if you had to choose?

Keep The Bugs At Bay

One of my FAVORITE things to do in the Summer time is be outdoors. I love reading, walking, playing games in the yard and most of all I love grilling out and having dinner parties on the back patio.

Doesn't this just make you want to have some friends over for a back yard BBQ? Whats not to love?.... except of course, with summer comes lots of bugs.

If you are anything like me, I can not stand having bugs around.... and citronella candles work great except that so many of them are just flat ugly. Well I have done a little research for you (and me) and found some great options that are affordable AND stylish!

These are adorable from West Elm

These World Market candles are great for a more funky look

Or these bucket lights from Crate and barrel

These planter style candles are great from Pier 1

Or these planters from Pottery Barn are great too!

I love these floating candles from Pottery Barn too! Wouldn't these be great for a backyard pool?
